In
884BC, the first Olympic Truce was born. Three rulers from Elis,
Sparta and Pisa
signed on the treaty. They agreed to stop fighting against each other from the
seven days before the game and the seventh after the game.
Nowadays,
the Olympic Truce is back. It means not only peace, but also the opportunity to
compete with top athletes around the world. Through sports, it promotes peace
to the world. Such as the Sydney Games in summer, the North and South Korean
delegations entered the Stadium under the same flag. That never happened in the
past 50 years, but the Olympic Truce made it possible.
Besides
the Truce, the Truce Walls also symbolize peace. The first one was created in
2004 Athens Games. It is a visible symbol that represents peace. Athletes and
officials signed on it to pledge to support the peace through sport.
Until
now, the Olympic Truce is still working to ensure that peace goes forever. It
brings a better way and also a better future.
